Sun burnt wood from Austrian field barns
You have probably seen them; old barns, farms and mountain cabins high up in the Alps, often older than we are. Because of the extreme weather influences in the Alps, these pinewood planks have beautiful deep grooves. Bright sunlight creates unique colour patterns from dark grey to light brown, which in German is referred to as ‘Sonnengebrant’ (‘sun-burnt’). This is the source of our oak barnwood “Alpine wood”! This type of barnwood is available in grey and brown colours.

Barnwood in a box
A drawback of reclaimed wood is the varying dimensions in widths, thickness and length. Because of this, reclaimed wood is not always easy to work with, and a variety of professional tools are required. To facilitate this process we have introduced Barnwood in a box! Barnwood in a box is a variant of barnwood in 4 fixed widths and 1 fixed length,
which makes it easy to use this barnwood in irregular bond on a wall. The product is available in repetitive dimensions, which makes it easy to add panels later! We offer barnwood in a box in 3 variants: the softwood version “Alpine wood”, reclaimed oak “Zagreb”, and “France” made of antique fruit crates!
Playful effect
The reclaimed oak or pine panels are brushed and planed to different thicknesses to get a beautiful and playful effect. Furthermore, the planks are selected by quality and packed in a box containing 2m2 of barnwood. The planks have been dried to a humidity of 12-14% and are perfectly suited for interior applications.
Processing Barnwood in a box
We recommend to use a flexible mounting kit when using this material. Apply this kit in 2 or 3 glue grooves on the back of the planks. Then press the plank on a flat background. Make sure the background is free of grease and moisture. Occasionally use small nails to set the panels into the adhesive. Keep approximately 5mm of free space along the edges. This space is needed because wood expands and shrinks.
